June 2001 Sifnos has a lot of spectacular landscapes, nice villages. Some of the villages are really jewels. There are a good amount of little fishing ports and beaches. Most places do have a couple of restaurants. Tourism level is on a good scale but not disturbing at all. Though a small island you can easily spend a week, because there is a lot the see.

Map of Kamares |
We stayed at hotel Boulis. A room with a view ! (just in front of the beach with oleanders and little dunes). We paid 15000 GDR with a tastefull, simple buffet breakfast (every day fresh bread, selfmade cake, eggs, cornflakes, different marmelades, fruit juice, tea, coffee …) . | |

Estiatorio Voulis (Kamares)
|
From the same family as the hotel: we went 4 of the five evenings to this restaurant, which was recommended by several of our friends who went before us. A very good kitchen, very attentive waiters, also very friendly. This was our favorit during this journey. We tried a lot of plates (chorta, spanakopita, tarama (the best I ever have eaten), fava, octopus in vinegar, melitzana, souvlaki’s , kolokita (filled courgettes),revithokeftedes, very fresh astakos accompanied by a delicious dressing , … here you can discover the variety of good Greek cooking. After every meal you are offered a little desert (all prepared by the house). We always left with a good feeling and it was not expensive at all. |

Ouzeri Kamari (Kamares) |
Ouzeri Kamari (in the beginning of the promenade from the port); we came here at noon. This is a cool place to enjoy the daily life along the promenade. The food was well prepared and the service attentive.

Da Claudio (Kamares) |
The Italian Da Claudio (next to Boulis estiatorio) offers tastefull plates. But it is more expensive than the other ones. |
|
Ammoudia (Cheronissos)
|
This place offers good food and a nice view in a small fisher village idyllic situated.

Tsikali (Vathi)
|
Estiatorio Tsikali offered good food, tasteful local wine |
| Kyklades (Plati Yialos) | We tried the Kyklades. This was the only one on our whole trip where we had a bad meal. Their only concern was the order and the payment of course, the rest seemed unimportant. Even the most simple dishes weren’t enjoying. You are warned! |
| Kamares | coming! |
| Ag. Simeon | We
did the 8 km trip to the monastery Ag. Simeon (you need a trailer or jeep
to do this excursion). The monastery was closed but from this place you
have exceptional views. Starting from Kamares up to the hill, it was a really bad road (if a road at all) which was splitting now and then without mentioning directions. The first try we arrived at Troulaki and passed close to the monastery without awareness. A better (much shorter and in a relatively better condition) alternative to reach the monastery is taking the direction Cheronissos, which is almost completely asphalted (they’re finishing the last few kilometers). At the small village of Troulaki take the dusty road on your left and when arriving at a split with a little wooden cross to the right of the road, there you have to turn right. From here you are very close. |
